BMW E24 "JPS" 635i
Back in the Shop
We couldn’t have been more thrilled to have Chris’s stunning JPS E24 race car back in the shop for a mix of maintenance, upgrades, and a few creature comforts before it returned to the track. Routine tasks included resetting valve clearances, fixing a gearbox leak, and addressing a reoccurring differential mount issue. To properly solve the mount problem, we fabricated reinforcement bracing across the boot floor, tied into the towers with crush tubes to add strength and rigidity throughout the rear end.
Performance Upgrades
Cooling was also a key focus. The thermo fans are now ECU-controlled, removing the risk of human error and ensuring consistent performance during long sessions. This upgrade means peace of mind for Chris when pushing the car hard, and stationary for a long time, without worrying about overheating.
Comfort on the Track
And yes—you read that right—A/C in a race car! After experiencing brutal cabin temps during events like the Classic Adelaide Rally, Chris decided it was time for an upgrade. We installed a 12V standalone A/C system, which moves plenty of ice-cold air and can even be plumbed with heater lines for year-round comfort. Surprisingly effective, it makes long days in the car far more enjoyable without the hassle of a full cool suit.
Looking Ahead
Always a pleasure working on this gorgeous machine, and with more refinements still to come, Chris can now enjoy his track time with improved reliability, performance, and yes—even air-conditioned comfort.
